Alive is a leading UK charity aiming to reduce isolation and loneliness and enrich the lives of older people living in care. Set up in 2009, through activities and projects we have supported thousands of vulnerable older people (especially those living with dementia) to connect with what’s important to them and with the community and world around them. We do this through our person-centred approach to sharing the joy and magic of music and dance, using creative apps for fun and engagement, and through life story, intergenerational and community projects and activities. Caring for a loved one living with dementia can be a huge challenge, so through training and projects, we aim to support family members to understand how best to reach and enrich life for the person living with dementia. We also train and coach care sector staff in our approach. We put the person at the heart of everything we do, and aim through our work to celebrate and support the uniqueness of each individual. Older people living in care are some of the least visible in society – we work to help change that, and enable their voices to be heard.
