Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) steals your central vision, your confidence and your ability to enjoy the things you love. Many people living with AMD feel alone, and it helps to talk to someone else who knows exactly what you’re going through. The Macular Society has a telephone befriending service, free to use for anyone affected by AMD.
It’s easy to register. Call 0300 3030 111 to ask for our befriending service. One of our friendly team will have a chat with you over the phone to learn more about you and the things you’d like to talk about. They will then see which of our trained volunteers is available to call you on a regular basis for a friendly chat.
Most of our volunteers are living with sight loss themselves, so they totally understand what it’s like for you. As well as being a friendly listening ear, they may be able to share some of the tips and things they do that help make life’s challenges a little easier.
