Next Steps provides support for people experiencing mental health issues including isolation and loneliness based around a drop-in centre and community café in Norton, Pickering and Kirkbymoorside -North Yorkshire. In providing this support the aim is to involve service users in operating the service and in deciding what it does both in a way of responding to their needs and as a way of helping them take control of their lives; in effect a catalyst for them moving on with their lives.
In addition, Next Steps seeks to assist people who are isolated or lonely as this is often the commencement of mental health issues. Next Steps has successfully provided this service for 19 years and have, in addition, established two satellite services in Pickering and Kirkbymoorside and 9 satellite “pop ups” throughout Ryedale. Service users can be referred to us from the Community Mental Health Team, their GP, local organisation including Mind and Ryedale Carers Support, or they can self refer.
We provide lots of schemes, groups and activities to prevent loneliness and isolation. We offer Men in sheds groups, art, crafts, IT support, volunteer schemes, volunteering for driving, gardening, cafe support, out of hours clubs-evenings and weekends, as well as totally not lonely – on a Sunday(Sunday lunch club).
