Our Volunteer Centre recruits, trains and supports volunteers from all walks of life to help older and disabled members of our community.  The direct services we provide are a befriending, sitting and shopping project, transport scheme and Home From Hospital Support Service which started in April 2019 to support those vulnerable people being discharged from hospital with no help or those at risk of being hospitalised.  Most of our clients receive no other services sadly and our volunteers may be the only people they speak to for days as some are housebound and isolated.

We provide information on various other forms of help and can signpost where necessary, people do not know where to find support in a lot of cases and are unaware of what is available.  Our volunteers may live on their own and by getting out and meeting people they say it has enhanced their lives and given them a purpose, it is the feel good factor.  Without the help of our wonderful volunteers in our borough I do not know what we would do.  Training is provided including Dementia Training as unfortunately many people referred have some form of the disease.

Anyone can refer from Health, Social Services, groups and organisations, family members, friends and self referrals.  For those who can get out with help we host a monthly Tea Dance and can refer to various lunch clubs and interest groups.
