B:Friend is a charity that works across South Yorkshire to tackle loneliness and social isolation in the local community.
“This is such a needed thing and it’s having such an impact.”
Funded by a range of organisations including the National Lottery, B:Friend bings socially isolated people together through two main ways:
- BFriending: The charity engages local volunteers who pledge to visit a socially isolated person for at least one hour a week, having a cuppa and a chat and building relationships between the generations.
- Social Groups: BFriend’s network of volunteers run social groups across South Yorkshire. These groups usually take place once a week, and provide a great opportunity for isolated people to come together, make new friendships and take part in activities- from engaging talks, arts and crafts to dance and music sessions.
