Poole Housing Partnership (PHP) have developed a number of initiatives aimed at supporting their residents through the challenges arising from Covid-19.
The biggest success in tackling loneliness has been the local befriending service, which was the brainchild of a local resident, Chris. Chris made the suggestion that residents could reach out to their fellow residents who may be feeling particularly isolated during lockdown. Discussion followed with a number of residents who all agreed it was a great initiative that would make them feel useful and hopefully lead to some new friends.
PHP set out to identify suitable “befrienders” and then asked people whether they wanted to be included in the scheme.
There are currently 25 befrienders, offering their time to have a regular chat with anyone who feels they would benefit from the service, they each call between five to ten people a week, and the numbers keep growing.
